Import Export Code Registration

  1. An Import Export Code (IEC), also known as an Importer-Exporter Code, is a unique ten-digit alphanumeric code issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) in India. It’s mandatory for any entity or individual who wants to import or export goods across international borders in India.

  2. Who Needs an IEC:
  • Individuals, businesses, or companies involved in import or export activities.
  • This can include manufacturers, traders, e-commerce businesses importing or exporting goods, or service providers utilizing imports for their services (exceptions apply).
  1. Documents Required for IEC:
  • PAN Card: Permanent Account Number of the applicant (individual or company).
  • Aadhaar Card or any other identity proof:
  • Address Proof: Documents like utility bills or bank statements not older than a few months can serve as address proof.
  • Bank Account Details: Cancelled cheque or bank statement can be used to verify bank account details.
  • Partnership Deed (if applicable): In case of a partnership firm.
  • Memorandum of Association (MoA) and Articles of Association (AoA) (if applicable): For a Private Limited Company.

       4.Obtaining an IEC:

  • The application for an IEC is typically submitted online through the DGFT portal. Once approved, the IEC is issued electronically.

    5.Validity of IEC:
  • An IEC has a lifetime validity unless there’s a change in the constitution of the business or it’s not renewed for a certain period as per the latest regulations.
